PURPOSE:To produce a pet food for cat or dog having excellent palatability, nutrient and handleability at a low cost, by adding tartaric acid and malic acid as a palatability-improving substance. CONSTITUTION:The surface of (A) a pet food is smeared with (B) preferably 0.0005-5.0wt% palatability-improving substance comprising tartaric acid and/or malic acid (based on the sum of raw material components) or is coated or sprayed with an aqueous solution or emulsion of the component B. The water- content of the obtained pet food is adjusted to <=35wt%. The objective pet food prepared by the above process has remarkably improved palatability compared with a pet food free from palatability-improving substance and can be fed to pet animals over a long period without being cloyed. |
