PURPOSE:To improve residual color stain after processing by forming a hydrophilic colloidal layer colored with a novel light absorbing dye. CONSTITUTION:A compound represented by general formula I is incorporated into a photosensitive silver halide material. In the formula, G is methyl, methoxy or hydroxy; R1 is a univalent group having <=-0.05 Hammett's sigmap value such as alkyl, cycloalkyl, hydroxy or alkoxy; R2 is phenyl having at least one sulfo group; R3 is a univalent group such as alkyl, halogen or hydroxy; each of X and Y is H, alkyl or substituted alkyl (the total SIGMApi of the hydrophobic substituent constants pi of the substituents is >=-4.70, and the substituents include cyano, hydroxy and haloalkyl); X and Y may bond to each other to form a 5- or 6- membered ring; L is methine; m is 1, 2, 3 or 4; and n is 1 or 2. |
