The present invention provides a transparent dressing material which is especially useful for the treatment of wounds, comprising a hydrophilic, organic, transparent gel in the form of a sheet or strip which is initially swollen with an aqueous solution, which can contain a buffer substance, an active material conventional in the treatment of wounds, a nutrient material and/or a growth material and optionally contains a strengthening material arranged in the form of threads or mesh, said dressing material being in the form of a dried, swellable, clear film. The present invention also provides a process for the preparation of this dressing material by polymerisation in the desired shape, of a suitable monomer. |
