PURPOSE:To identify a blue cytoplasm, a red cytoplasm, and a nucleus area securely by generating a two-dimensional histogram from a color image pickup signal and fixing a partial area in a living body cell image on the basis of the histogram. CONSTITUTION:Signals showing density values of an R picture and a G picture at picture element points obtained from video memories 1 and 2 are sent to an (n)-bit shift register 3 through switches S1 and S2. The output of the shift register 3 is inputted to a two-dimensional histogram memory 4, wherein the density level of the R picture corresponds to a longitudinal coordinate value and that of the G picture corresponds to a longitudinal coordinate value. Then, a local peak or semilocal peak coordinate point in the two-dimensional histogram is calculated in a process (1), and a couple (two-dimensional vector) of the density values of the R and G pictures representing respective areas are calculated from the local or semilocal peak coordinate point in a process (2). Then, partial areas are identified by the two-dimensional vectors. |
