PURPOSE:To prevent adhesion of ink droplets to the end of a nozzle and also entrainment of bubbles into ink by coating the edge of a nozzle mouth of an ink jet head which ejects a water-soluble ink in the form of droplets through a nozzle with a hydrophilic film and covering the nozzle edge of the open nozzle mouth with a water-repellent film. CONSTITUTION:An about 1mum thick silicon film 2 is applied to the nozzle edge 10 of an ink jet head base material 1 by an ion plating method. The film 2 permeates the mouth edge 4 of a nozzle mouth 4 to form coating, and this is a hydrophilic film having less than 5 deg. of water contact angle. Next a silicon film 3 having a thickness of hundreds - thousands of Angstrom is created by a CVD method. Even at that time, the film 3 penetrates into the mouth edge 4a of the nozzle mouth 4 to form coating. However, the range of this coating is insignificant, thus not affecting the action of the hydrophilic film 2 adversely. This film 3 is a water repellent film having a water contact angle of more than 90 deg.. |
