HEMATINIC

PURPOSE:A hematinic comprising iron bond type lactoferrin obtained by linking ferric ion to lactoferrin separated from milk by chelate bond. CONSTITUTION:Lactoferrin separated from milk is dissolved in a solution of sodium citrate or sodium bicarbonate, ferric chloride or ferric sulfate is dissolved in the solution and solution stirred at normal temperature for about 1hr to link ferric ion to lactoferrin by chelate bond. The blending molar ratio is preferably 2:1 since <=2mol of ferric iron is bonded to one lactoferrin (not modified) molecule. The prepared iron bond type lactoferrin is desalted and ultrafiltered and may be directly used in the solution form as a hematinic or is concentrated, dried by lyophilization and used in the form of powder. A does is 20-200mg/kg/ day. The hematinic is stable under an acidic condition and shows 5 times as high hematinic function as that of existing iron agent.
