PURPOSE:To obtain the titled material having excellent sensitivity, fog and graininess, and having less tendency for generating blackening due to rubbing and pressure desensitization, even in case of a small amount of gelatin contd. in the titled material by controlling a water content of the titled material to 10-20g/(m<2>) at an end of a water-washing step, when the titled material is processed by means of a roller-carrying type automatic developing machine. CONSTITUTION:In the titled material which is mounted at least one layer of a hydrophilic colloid layer on a substrate body, when the titled material is processed by means of the roller-carrying type automatic developing machine, the water content of the titled material at the end of the water-washing step of said machine is controlled to 10-20g/(m<2>). In order to control said water content to the prescribed range, a melting time of the titled material is controlled to >=8min to <=45min, and the amount of gelatin mounted on the hydrophilic colloid layer contg. the photosensitive halide emulsion layer is 2.00-3.50g/(m<2>). In the processing of the titled material, the liquid developer contg. the compds. shown by formula I and/or formula II is used.
