Inclinable armchair of the type formed of a rigid shell (11) comprising both the seat and the backrest for the user, mounted on a frame (12), the shell being displaceable relative to the frame according to a combined tilting motion (23) from top to bottom and of sliding from back to forth, and vice-versa. Said armchair (10) is characterized in that the frame (12) comprises two vertical aprons (46, 47) which extend from either side of the longitudinal symmetry plane of the armchair, each apron having two projecting rollers (48, 49) provided at different heights, and in that the shell (11) comprises two vertical flanges (13, 14) which are parallel to the longitudinal plane and on either side of the latter, each flange (13, 14) presenting two elongate grooves (59, 60) wherein a roller (48, 49) may roll during a combined motion (23), the relative position of both rollers and the profiles of the two grooves being such that, during said motion (23), the head (20) of the user moves in correlation according to a vertical line (21).
