Simple test for the presence of denitrifying bacteria in closed water systems which have been treated with nitrite-containing corrosion inhibitors. In this test (A) a water sample from a closed water system which has been treated with a nitrite corrosion inhibitor is cultured in a gas tube test using a bacterial growth medium free of fermentable substrates, (B) the culture is incubated long enough to promote considerable bacterial growth, and (C) at the end of the culture period it is established whether the gas tube contains nitrogen gas. |
