The convertible seat or sofa has a frame (1) with an open front and a support (2) for the upholstered cushions (5,6). A semi-circular lower part (7) is mounted when not in use beneath the support in the frame but can be swivelled out forwards about a vertical axis (9) into the use position. The axis is located at the front of the frame. The support supports at least two semi-circular cushions, of which the top cushion (6) has a thickness matching the sum of the thicknesses of the support and lower cushion (5). When setting the cushion onto a support (12) of the lower part, a flat circular seat surface is formed with the cushion (5) remaining on the frame. ADVANTAGE - The useful surface of the seat can be extended easily with minimum effort whilst the overall structure is simplified.
