In an ECL step circuit of n series-connected stages, the supply voltages U1, U2,...,Un for the individual stages S1, S2,...,Sn are increased from stage to stage by the base-emitter voltage UBE of the transistors provided. This is achieved by the (n-m)th stage being supplied with a central supply voltage Uc via m series-connected diodes, m assuming the values from 0 to (n-1). As diodes, transistors are provided in which the base is connected to the collector. Due to this measure, the emitter followers for voltage matching between the individual stages can be omitted. Instead of 2(n-1) emitter followers with 2(n-1) transistors and 2(n-1) emitter resistors, an n-stage ECL step circuit according to the invention only requires n-1 transistors. <IMAGE>
