The sound suppressor extending forwardly from the barrel of a weapon comprises a cylindrical can having interior sound suppressing baffles. A bored entrance end plug is provided on the can which is secured to the barrel of the weapon. A tubular sleeve is fitted on the can and slidable longitudinally of the can between a first position retracted onto the can and a second position extending forwardly, with only adjacent ends lapping. The sound suppressing action of the suppressor is enhanced by lengthening as the sleeve is moved from the first position toward the second position. A threaded fixing secures the sleeve in selected position on the can. A slot in the sleeve extends longitudinally of the suppressor, with a stop extending from the can into the slot for limiting movement of the sleeve relative to the can. |
