PURPOSE:To obtain a two-color thermal recording material high in low-temperature color forming sensitivity, free of sticking, adhesion of scum to a head or the like and having excellent head matching properties, by providing first and second thermal color forming layers capable of forming colors with different hues so that the layer requiring less thermal energy for color forming is provided as an upper layer, and using a specified basic leuco dye in the second thermal color forming layer. CONSTITUTION:First and second thermal color forming layers requiring different quantities of thermal energy for color forming and capable of forming colors with different hues are provided on one side of a base so that the layer requiring less thermal energy for color forming is provided as an upper layer. Of the two color forming layers, at least the second layer constituting the upper layer is provided by using a color forming system comprising a basic leuco dye and a color developer, and a decolorizing agent for the coloring system of the second layer is provided at active positions in the layer. In this two-color thermal recording material, a basic leuco dye of the general formula, wherein R1 is an alkyl, R2 is a 5C or higher alkyl or alkoxyalkyl, R3 is hydrogen, a 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, and R4 is hydrogen, an alkyl, halogen or trihalomethyl, having a melting point of 80-130 deg.C is used in the second thermal color forming layer. With the compound of the general formula thus used, low-temperature color forming sensitivity can be enhanced without using any sensitizer, and there is no possibility of sticking, adhesion of scum to a head or the like even when high thermal energy is applied. |
