There is described a joining device with a tool-holding fixture for the element to be joined and a compensator element for compensating for position errors of the tool-holding fixture relative to the joining partner in a plane perpendicular to the joining direction. According to the invention, the compensator element has lamellae arranged in the manner of a bellows. This construction provides not only a large degree of flexibility, with small dimensions, perpendicularly to the joining direction, but additionally also a large degree of flexibility in the joining direction, with the result that additional spring elements can be dispensed with. Moreover, it is possible, by evacuation, overpressure, filling in a non-newtonian liquid or the like, to change the rigidity of the element within a wide range.
