PURPOSE:To simply produce electrolytic manganese dioxide having superior characteristics for a dry battery at a low cost by electrolyzing an aqueous manganese sulfate soln., subjecting the resulting manganese dioxide to crushing, pulverization and neutralization, and adding an oxidizing agent to carry out oxidation. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous manganese sulfate soln. as an electrolytic soln. or a suspension prepd. by adding a manganese oxide slurry to the manganese sulfate soln. is electrolyzed with a Ti plate or the like as the anode to deposit manganese dioxide on the anode. The deposited manganese dioxide is stripped from the anode and after-treated by washing with hot water, crushing, pulverization, washing with hot water, neutralization and drying. In the crushing, pulverization or neutralization stage, an oxidizing agent such as KMnO4 or NaClO is added to oxidize layer manganese oxide. Thus, electrolytic manganese dioxide made essentially of gamma.MnO2 is obtd. |
