ELECTRONIC SHUTTER FOR IMAGE SENSOR USING PHOTODIODES

An image sensor has a plurality of photodiodes, each of which integrates light from a scene and accumulates charge in a potential well. A shallow diode is disposed above each such photodiode and is connected to a source of reference potential substantially clamping the top portion of the shallow diode at a fixed reference potential. A potential is selectively applied which removes the potential well and empties the diode of charge.
