A battery pack 3 which powers an electrical device, such as a calculator, tape recorder or cellular radio, carries solar cells (7), (Fig 2), connected to the battery cells via a diode for charging the battery when the pack 3 is removed from a main casing 1 of the device. The solar cells may also supplement the battery power to the device when the pack 3 is fitted to the casing 1, and in this state additional solar cells which may be mounted on the main casing 1 may be connected to the solar cells on the pack 3 to supplement the power available to the device. <IMAGE> |
