The tire (11) has a plurality of main grooves (16, 17) in its tread (15). The main grooves extend substantially circumferentially and are spaced apart from each other in an axial direction of the tire. Each main groove is continuous. Intersection angles (A) between an equatorial plane (12) of the tire and tangents (L) to each main groove increase from a starting end (16a, 17a) to a terminal end (16b, 17b) of the main groove opening at a side (18, 19) of the tire. The pneumatic tire further has a plurality of sipes (21, 22) in its tread. The sipes extend substantially in axial directions of the tire but are inclined relative to the equatorial plane of the tire and spaced apart from each other in circumferential directions. Each sipe is inclined with its opening directed forward in the rotational direction of the tire.
