PURPOSE:To make a bright display and a high-contrast display by providing a polarizing plate which has its polarizing direction in the molecule orientation direction of liquid crystal at one part outside a liquid crystal cell which has the molecule orientation at the one part perpendicularly to the molecule orientation of liquid crystal at other parts and corresponds to the one part. CONSTITUTION:Oriented films 4a-4d are formed on the opposite surfaces of glass substrates 2, 2', and 2'' from above transparent electrodes 3a-3f. Then, liquid crystal 6 which contains dichroic coloring matters 5a and 4b is injected into the space between the 1st glass substrate 2 and the 2nd glass substrate 2', and the space between the 2nd glass substrate 2' and the 3rd glass substrate 2'' and the spaces are sealed with seal materials provided to their peripheries to constitute a liquid crystal cell consisting of the 1st layer I and the 2nd layer II. The polarizing plate 8 which has the polarizing direction X in the rubbing direction of the oriented films 4a and 4b at a part B is provided on the top surface of the 1st glass substrate 2. Thus, an optimum liquid crystal display element itself for an automobile information display is obtained. |
