PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing drugs, agricultural chemicals and synthetic resins in improved formation rate, by reacting an alkali metallic salt of phenol with a halonitrobenzene in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst in an aprotic solvent. CONSTITUTION:An alkali metallic salt of an aminophpenol shown by formula I (R is lower alkyl; n is 0-4) is reacted with a halonitrobenzene shown by formula II (X is halogen; R<1> is lower alkyl; n is 0-4) in the presence of a quaternary ammonium salt or quaternary phosphonium salt in an aprotic solvent (e.g. 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone) at 50-200 deg.C to give the aimed substance shown by formula III. The amount of the compound shown by formula II used is 0.5-2.0 as much as the amount of the compound shown by formula I, the amount of the catalyst is 0.01-0.2mol based on 1mol compound shown by formula I and the amount of the solvent is 10-2,000ml based on 1mol compound shown by formula I to carry out the reaction. |
