PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in the characteristics and life of a pole without the increse of platinum carried by the first layer adjacent to the electrolyte and the second layer connected to the substrate by forming a catalytic layer with said two layers, and specifying the ratio of said platinum with said two layers. CONSTITUTION:In an air pole P which is composed of a volatile porous substrate B and a catalytic layer A formed by binding carbon powder carrying platinum catalyst with fluorocarbon resin, there is a layer A composed of two layers, i.e. a first layer 1 adjacent to the electrolyte and a second layer 2 connected to the substrate B. The ratio of platinum between the two layers 1, 2 is specified in the range of about 1:2-1:9, and preferably about 1:4. In the catalytic layer A, the platinum of the first layer 1 is remarkably reduced in comparison with that of the second layer 2 so as to prevent the ellusion of the platinum catalyst to the fuel pole side via the electrolyte, and the wet condition due to the electrolyte is treated by effectively utilizing the platinum catalyst of the second layer 2. The characteristics and life of a cell can therefore be improved without increasing the platinum catalyst. |
