Insulin derivatives which have a charge which is positive as compared with the charge of human insulin at neutral pH can be used for preparing solutions having a delayed insulin effect. In the previously unknown insulin derivatives, a basic amino acid is substituted in the B27 position and/or a neutral amino acid is inserted in the A4, A17, B13 and/or B21 position. The C-terminal, AsnA21 in the A chain can be replaced by another amino acid with a view to increasing the stability of the solutions at the weakly acid pH for pharmaceutical products. Furthermore, the C-terminal carboxyl group in the B chain can be protected with an amido or ester group. Provided that A21 is Asn, the carboxylic acid group in B30 is free.
