Heating device, in particular for burning wood, with a grate and a combustion chamber, which can be charged with fuel via an opening that can be closed, and which is followed by passes divided by walls, that lead to a flue gas outlet. In order to be able to subject the flue gases to high temperatures for as long as possible, to prevent larger emissions of pollutants such as unburned hydrocarbons, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, and the like, in such a heating device, at least one wall (9, 11', 14, 15', 21) separating two passes (10, 12, 13, 19, 21), but preferably all the walls (9, 11', 14, 15', 21) separating passes (10, 12, 13, 19, 21) from one another or from the combustion chamber (3) are to be made of a thermally well-conducting material, e.g. stainless, heat-resistant steel sheeting. <IMAGE>
