The arrangement contains a recording (picture-taking) device having a storage plate, and a reproducing device having an image reader for scanning the photostimulable luminescence of the storage plate. According to the invention, a predetermined thickness t is selected taking account of the stimulating light attenuation coefficient mu of the storage layer (2) for a given predetermined X-ray attenuation coefficient alpha and an emitted-light attenuation coefficient beta . The result is an optimised light yield of the emitted radiation (8) with respect to the X-ray irradiation (5).
