A lighting device for a vehicle, in particular a bicycle which has a dynamo, is to be used to ensure the bicycle is lit even if the dynamo is stationary, that is to say the bicycle is not moving. For this reason a battery is provided which is switched over to lighting the bicycle when a relay is in a state of rest. If the dynamo provides electric current, the said current flows through a relay winding, the battery is separated from the lights by the relay contacts and the lights receive their current from the dynamo via the relay contacts. <IMAGE>
