A work-holding fixture (17, 19, 21, 23), by means of which a workpiece (25) is held in such a way as to be movable relative to a cutting tool (11), is provided with a limit-switch arrangement by means of which the relative movement is stopped upon achieving a predetermined distance between work-holding fixture (17, 19, 21, 23) and cutting tool (11). The limit-switch arrangement has an impact device (33) arranged in a fixed position relative to the cutting tool (11) and an elastic element (31) which is arranged on the work-holding fixture (17, 19, 21, 23) and sustains deformation upon collision with the impact device. The deformation can be detected by a deformation detector device and leads to the relative movement being stopped. <IMAGE>
