The apparatus (1) for pushing packaging units (2), in particular crates and cardboard boxes, between two conveying devices (3, 4) for distribution and sorting purposes has a motor-driven carrousel (6) having a spindle (9-9) which is arranged adjacent to the first conveying device (3), perpendicular to the running plane (7-7) of the latter and in a column (8) and on which there is arranged at least one rotary arm (10) which rotates above the conveying device (3) in a plane (11-11), which is parallel to and displaced with respect to the running plane (7-7) of the first conveying device (3), and whose reach (12) extends as far as a second conveying device (4). Pivotably arranged at the outer end of the rotary arm (10) is a pushing-across plate (13). The pushing-across apparatus (1) is equipped with an apparatus for automatically swivelling the pushing-across plate (13) from the resting position (13') below the rotary arm (10) into the conveying position (13''), which is parallel to the running direction (a) of the first conveying device (3) and perpendicular to the running plane (7-7) of the latter, and vice versa and with an apparatus for guiding the pushing-across plate (13) parallel to the running direction (a) of the first conveying device (3). <IMAGE>
