PURPOSE:To prepare an expanded twisted cake having appearance of a rope without necessitating a cutting device, continuously over a long period, by extruding an expanded cake through a nozzle of an extruder, twisting the cake with outer wall of a die and a specific rotary disk placed opposite to the wall and tearing off the twisted cake. CONSTITUTION:Granular raw material for cake stored in a hopper 1 of an extruder for the preparation of expanded cake is supplied between a screw 5 and a cylinder 4 engraved with a spiral and gelatinized by heating at about 140 deg.C under about 10kg/cm<2> pressure. After controlling the residual water-content of the gelatinized raw material to 6-18%, the expanded cake is extruded from a nozzle 7 of a die 8. A rotary disk 9 having hollow part to enable the cooling of the disk is placed opposite to the outer wall of the die 8 keeping a definite distance therefrom and is made movable along vertical, transversal and longitudinal directions. The extruded cake is pinched between the rotary disk 9 and a front wall of the die 8 and the disk 9 is rotated round the axis 12 to twist the cake in the form of a rope. The linear velocity of the disk 9 is adjusted faster than the extrusion speed of the cake to tear off the twisted expanded cake and the torn cake is released from the disk 9 with a scraper 26 to obtain the objective twisted cake 25. |
