PURPOSE:To produce an aromatic hydrocarbon from a light hydrocarbon using a zinc-containing ZSM-5 zeolite as a catalyst, in high yield and stably with time, by using a catalyst having specific composition and properties and excellent stability as the above catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic hydrocarbon is produced from light hydrocarbon having a boiling point of <=190 deg.C, an aromatic hydrocarbon content of <=15wt% and >=4C atoms by using a zinc-containing ZSM-5 zeolite as a catalyst. The objective compound can be economically produced on an industrial scale, by carrying out the above reaction preferably at 450-550 deg.C, a weight space velocity of 0.2-2hr<-1> and 0.8-5atm using the above catalyst satisfying the following conditions. The atomic ratio of Si/Al is 10-75. The atomic ratio of Zn/Si is 0.008-0.03. The desorbed amount of pyridine per 1g of said ZSM-5 zeolite is 40-120mumol at 500-900 deg.C measured by temperature-increase desorption at a heating rate of 15 deg.C/min using pyridine. |
