In order to achieve an especially reliable retention of round-shank cutters (1) on their cutter holders (2), there is used, according to the invention, a retention element (7) consisting of two approximately identical half parts (8, 9) which are fixed to the shank end of the cutter shank by means of at least one clamping screw (15, 16), whilst they engage by means of stop ribs (12) into an annular groove (5) of the cutter shank. <IMAGE>
