The invention is aimed at an overvoltage protection apparatus which consists of an upper part and a lower part which are coupled via plug-in contact elements. In this case, the overvoltage protection elements are arranged in the upper part, while the lower part comprises continuous cable runs with a coupling element connected inbetween. In order to improve the protection effect and to design the apparatus in a space-saving manner, it is proposed to provide the upper part with a printed circuit board whose conductor tracks form contact elements in the lower edge region, which contact elements can be coupled into a contact receptacle, in the form of a groove, in the lower part, consisting of complementary mating contact elements which are aligned in a straight line. The overvoltage protection elements are in this case located in a board zone which is immediately adjacent to this edge region, which results in short lead elements with low inductance. The lower part is in this case provided with a housing attachment in the form of a sleeve into which the printed circuit board of the upper part can be inserted, as a housing insert, said printed circuit board being mounted vertically on a cover which closes this attachment.
