A state model (22, 24, 26) of the aircraft (10) is produced which has the same order as the model which forms the basis of an observed vector x of the state variables. The state model supplies a nominal vector xnom of the state variables. A difference vector DELTA x = xnom - x is formed and is connected to an actuating output via a restoring matrix means (31).
