Method and device for absorbing a pressure shock in pipes when conveying a medium, in which there is provided in the pipe a valve which consists of two parts, between which is formed at least one space closed off by diaphragms. Both bodies can be both moved together in the same direction (direction of flow or counter to the direction of flow) and separately in opposite directions, depending on whether a pressure is exerted directly on the valve bodies or on the space enclosed by diaphragms between the valve bodies. The diaphragms move the valve bodies, which are designed as hemispherical cups, with the aid of a tappet attached to them. The cavity between the diaphragms can itself be connected to the pipe via a bypass line. <IMAGE>
