A multi-layer document consists of a cover layer (1), a one- or multi-layer carrier layer (2) and optical markings (3) enclosed between the protective layers (1; 2). At least one of the two protective layers (1; 2) is transparent in a predetermined spectral range of light. One or more optically active intermediate layers (4) cover the optical markings (3). To create an optimum bond between the protective layers (1; 2), the intermediate layer (4) is subdivided in a predetermined pattern so that intermediate-layer-free adhesive bridges (5) are created for joining the protective layers (1; 2). This prevents the optical markings (3) from being exposed without being destroyed. The pattern of the adhesive bridges (5) can be utilised for providing the document with an artistic design. <IMAGE> |
