<p>When sanding e.g. panel doors (12) in a machine, the doors are placed under six horizontal sanding spindles (10) with sanding members (11) which partly rotate and partly are moved around a vertical driving cylinder (19). The spindles (10) are mounted in such a way that they can be programmed to rotate in a given direction and in necessary be completely disengaged. This programming is done by placing cams (17, 18 and 23, 24) for engaging and disengaging the spindle (10) by vertical movement of a friction cone (8) on the spindle between an upper and a lower friction path (6, 7) on the side of the driving cylinder (19). Hereby a perfect sanding is obtained as the doors (12) are engaged by the sanding threads from many different sides thus eliminating sanding traces. Furthermore, the machine can be adjusted to the shape of the work piece, whereby it is possible to adapt the sanding operation individually according to the work piece and also to stop the sanding e.g. when the sanding members move across sharp edges on the work piece, said edges therefore remaining quite sharp as they are not exposed to any sanding.
