PURPOSE:To obtain the title copolymer having excellent heat resistance and low moisture permeability, by reacting speified two diphenols with a carbonate- forming compound. CONSTITUTION:A diphenol (A) of formula I (wherein R<1-2> are each H, 1-5C alkyl or phenyl, X and Y are each R<1>, halogen or 1-5C alkoxy and p and q are each 1-2), e.g., 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, and a diphenol (B) of formula II (wherein R<3> is 1-5C alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy or phenyl and n is 1-4), e.g, methylhydroquinone, are reacted with a carbonate-forming compound (C) (e.g., phosgene) at 0-150 deg.C for 1 min-5hr in a solvent (e.g., methylene chloride) in the presence of a binder (e.g., NaOH) and, optionally, a catalyst, a MW modifier and an antioxidant to obtain the title copolymer consisting of repeating units of formula III and 0.05-6 (in terms of a molar fraction) of repeating units of formula IV and having a reduced viscosity (as measured in a 0.5g/dl methylene chloride solution at 20 deg.C) >=0.2dl/g. |
