PURPOSE:To improve the use efficiency of a sheet, by a method wherein a length integer-times the length required in one recording is set to one unit and articles coated with colors different from each other are constituted as one set and one or more set of ink is applied to a transfer base material. CONSTITUTION:After Y2 of a first color is subjected to thermal transfer recording corresponding to a recording signal, a thermal head 14 is separated from a platen 16 and a thermal transfer type sheet 13 is transferred by a pitch (b) in the direction shown by an arrow D. A sheet transfer quantity detection means 26 detects the transfer quantity of the sheet 13 and recording paper 15 is transferred in the direction opposite to an arrow H by a capstan 20 to be set at a recording start position. When the thermal head is contacted with a platen under pressure to record M2 of a second color and C2 of a third color and recording is completed, the sheet 13 is transferred by a length of 2(a+b) in the direction of an arrow E by a supply reel 18 while the transfer quantity thereof is detected by the sheet transfer quantity detection means 26 and transferred to a position where next Y3 can be recorded. When the recording of final m-th cyan Cm of one set is finished, a mark 12' is detected by a detection sensor 23 and the thermal transfer type sheet is transferred by the length of C in the direction shown by an arrow D so that first Y1' of yellow of the next set comes to a recording position. |
