PURPOSE:To obtain a resin which is useful for an electrodeposition paint, has a low backing temperature and can give a coating film excellent in weathering resistance and corrosion inhibition, having tetramethylxylylene diisocyanate groups wherein NCO groups are blocked, have OH groups and are in the form of an ammonium salt. CONSTITUTION:A prepolymer (A), obtained by reacting alpha,alpha,alpha',alpha'- tetramethyxylylene diisocyanate having at least one blocked NCO group and at least one free NCO group and/or a mixture thereof with an active hydrogen compound [e.g., (di)ethylene glycol] in an NCO-excess state, is reacted with an epoxy group-containing compound (B) having at least one OH grup (e.g., an acrulic resin having both epoxy and OH groups). The reaction product is reacted with an active hydrogen-containing amine (C) (e.g., diethylamine) at 40-150 deg.C and then converted into a soluble form by converting its tert. amine groups into ammonium salts by reaction with an acid. |
