PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful for monomers of heat-resistant polymers from a simple compound at a low cost, by brominating fluorobenzene, reacting and esterifying the resultant product with CO and a phenol and carrying out rearrangement reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Fluorobenzene is brominated with a brominating agent consisting of bromine and/or molecular oxygen and hydrogen bromide to give a p- bromofluorobenzene, which is then reacted with carbon monoxide and a phenol having no substituent group at the p-position, particularly preferably phenol or 2,6-dimethylphenol in the presence of a carbonylation catalyst and base to give phenyl p-fluorobenzoate. The resultant compound is then rearranged into a 4-(p-fluorobenzoyl)phenol in the presence of an acid catalyst. EFFECT:High yield and selectivity. USE:An intermediate for agricultural chemicals, medicines, etc. |
