PURPOSE:A composition for preserving blood, obtained by blending oxalic acid or a water-soluble salt thereof, having prolonging action on erythrocytic function and useful for preserving blood, particularly erythrocytes for a long period. CONSTITUTION:A composition obtained by blending oxalic acid or a physiologically acceptable water-soluble salt thereof in a composition containing a well- known anticoagulant for preserving blood, e.g. ACD (acid-citrate-dextrose solution) consisting of 2.2pts.wt. sodium citrate, 0.8pts.wt. citric acid and 2.45pts.wt. glucose and well known perservative, e.g. ADSOL(R) consisting of 2.0pts.wt. glucose, 0.95pts.wt. sodium chloride (or 2.2pts.wt. glucose, 0.90pts.wt. sodium chloride), 0.75pts.wt. mannitol and 0.027pts.wt. adenine. The oxalic acid (salt) is preferably blended in an amount to give 0.1mM-1mM, particularly 0.1-0.4mM in suspending blood or erythrocytes in an aqueous solution for preserving the blood to prepare a blood preserving solution. |
