The lip rule adjuster is for paper machines in which the suspension flows outwards on to a running track, and consists of a rod of highly magnetic-unrestrictive material which alters length when it is exposed to varying magnetic fields. Several such rods are employed at several points to adjust the lip rule to the requisite bending profile across the paper machine. A coil encloses each rod either completely or partially, and is fastened via gap-free joints between the lip rule and the fitted manual adjustment screw. This screw is used to effect the basic adjustment of the lip opening, after which adjustments to the extent of plus or minus 5 mm can be achieved gradually using electrical signals from a computer or electronic system. The current through the coil is measured, and provides a very accurate indication of the extent of alteration in the lip rule position. |
