PURPOSE:To reduce man-hour in formation process and to simplify production process by charging a cadmium electrode plate at a current of 1.0-3.0C of theoretical capacity of active material of cadmium electrode plate. CONSTITUTION:A cadmium electrode plate 1 is charged at a current of 1.0-3.0C of theoretical capacity of active material of the cadmium plate 1. When the cadmium plate 1 obtained by spreading active material and drying is charged at high rate current like this, cadmium oxide is quickly converted into metallic cadmium by charge reaction. Shrinkage of the plate 1 in a surface direction in addition to a thickness direction is rapidly generated. By shrinkage especially in the surface direction, numerous cracks 4 are generated on both sides of the plate 1. Metallic cadmium layer on a conductive core surface is exposed on the surfaces of the plate 1 without any physical treatment. |
