PURPOSE:To raise the probability that a distance can be measured, by utilizing absolute distance information and moving a photographic lens to the effective position of an auxiliary illuminating light, in case of executing a distance measurement by using the auxiliary illuminating light. CONSTITUTION:When a low contrast (LC) flag is set to H due to the low contrast of an object to be photographed, and a position having the highest possibility for measuring a distance when an auxiliary illuminating light S lamp 27a for an AF is used is assumed to be the position of Xm as an absolute position, the value of an absolute distance counter in the position of Xm is counted back by using absolute distance coefficients (a), (b) which are read. Subsequently, this value is compared with the value of the absolute distance counter in a position where the present photographic lens is stopping, and the number of target moving pulses from the present position and the moving direction of the lens are calculate. Next, the photographic lens is moved to the most effective position of the auxiliary illuminating light and the AF operation of the second time is started. |
