The device comprises, for each power outlet, a local unit 5 linked to the corresponding energy distribution cabinet 3 and, for each control and command cabinet 4, a local unit 6 linked to this control and command cabinet, each local unit 5, 6 being furthermore linked to the public telephone network 7, and also comprises a computerised central unit 9 linked to each of the local units 5, 6 by means of at least one modem 17 which is itself linked to the public telephone network 7. Each local unit 5, 6 comprises means for addressing, to the computerised central station 9, information picked up in the cabinet 3, 4 to which it is linked, and the computerised central unit 9 comprises means for processing, storing, visually displaying and recording the said information, and for remotely interrogating the local unit 5, 6. Use as a maintenance aid for street lighting networks and road traffic light signals. <IMAGE>
