PURPOSE:To improve display quality even at the time of high multiplex driving and to obtain a wide visual angle and high contrast by providing the titled device with a pair of substrates arranged oppositely to each other, molecular orientation films, a liquid crystal component containing a chiral agent, and a pair of polarizing plates. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with a pair of oppositely arranged substrates, the molecular orientation films formed on the opposite surfaces of the substrates so that liquid crystal molecules are orientated between the substrates with twist corresponding to a prescribed angle theta included within 200-240 deg. range and an angle formed by liquid crystal molecules adjacent to the molecular orientation films and the films are set up to <=5 deg. and the liquid crystal component held between the substrates and containing the added chiral agent corresponding to theta-10 deg.--60 deg. range of twisting efficiency. In addition, a pair of polarizing plates arranged on the surfaces of the substrates which are the opposite sides to the surfaces forming the molecular orientation films so that respective transmission axes or absorbing axes are shifted by 5-60 deg. from the orientating direction of liquid crystal molecules on the surfaces of the adjacent molecular orientation films and an angle formed by respective transmission axes or respective absorbing axes is included within 20-80 deg. range are also formed. Consequently, display quality can be improved also in high multiplex driving. |
