A telescopic measuring rod has two measuring rod parts which can be slid telescopically inside one another, of which the outer part has a measuring rod scale from bottom to top and the inner part has a measuring rod scale adjoining from top to bottom. Reading off is provided in the region of the upper edge of the outer measuring rod part at a level in the region of the extended inner measuring rod part, on which a measuring tongue is arranged at the top. This measuring tongue (9) is detachably fixed and can be moved, when the inner measuring rod part (3) is retracted, directly on the outer measuring rod part (2) after a lock has been released. Reading off is then performed in its region. A surmountable latch is provided in the guide between the outer and inner measuring rod parts in such a way that with reference to the frictional resistance between the measuring rod parts (2, 3) and the lock for the measuring tongue (9) at the upper end of the inner measuring rod part (3), upon being returned along the outer measuring rod part (2) the measuring tongue (9) can be locked at the upper end of the retracted inner measuring rod part (3) before surmounting the latch, which is arranged, in particular, at the bottom. <IMAGE>
