The gap seal (16, 17, 18) between a telescopic cover (1) of guideways (bedways, slideways) and components (14) adjacent thereto in the case of machine tools comprises covering strips (16, 17, 18) which are fastened to each cover part starting from the cover part (5) which is second smallest in cross-section, and overlap the entire length of the cover part which is the next smallest in cross-section, and in the process cover the step-shaped extension produced from the telescopic cover between the telescopic cover and the fixed component. Consequently, in the attachment region these cover strips have a graduation (22, 24, 26) for the purpose of covering the step between the cover parts, which differ respectively in cross-section. <IMAGE>
