The described fat-catching device (10) for a hot-plate counter has a container (12) which contains a heatable water bath (14), above which a perforated food plate (24) is arranged. To be able to recover the food juices and considerably reduce the maintenance work required, a collecting trough (30) whose base (34) is provided with raised perforations (38) is arranged between the food plate (24) and the water bath (14). The food (28) to be kept warm is placed underneath a heat radiator (46) onto the food plate (24) and subjected to heat from above and preferably also to hot steam. Steam rising from the heated water bath (14) passes through the perforations (38) and holes (26) in the food plate (24) onto the food (28) to be kept warm, so that the latter is also subjected to hot steam from below. Food juices passing into the collecting trough (30) collect between dome-shaped elevations (36) and eventually flow via an outlet opening (40) into the collecting container (42). The food juices are thus recoverable, and significantly less maintenance work is required, since the water bath (14) is no longer contaminated owing to the collecting trough (30) arranged between it and the food plate (24). <IMAGE>
