For matching the pressure of a liquid or gaseous medium to a preset pressure, a pressure-equalisation valve has a housing (1) enclosing a chamber (2); inside the chamber (2) there is provided a diaphragm (6) or a piston which divides the chamber (2) into two pressure chambers (16, 17) adjoining each other; the diaphragm (6) or the piston is connected by means of a valve shaft (9), guided in the housing (1) by a guide (13), the valve shaft cooperating with a valve seat (11) and its position in relation to the valve seat (11) being adjustable by means of a change of shape of the diaphragm (6) or a movement of the piston. A control conduit (18), in which the preset pressure prevails, opens into the first pressure chamber (16) of the two pressure chambers (16, 17), the valve seat (11) is loaded by the medium and an equalisation conduit (19), which is also loaded by the medium, opens into the second pressure chamber (17) (see Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
