A cam-operated switch for installation in a front panel which is provided with an opening consists of an operating part (14) and of a switch part (16) having a cam shaft (66) and a number of switching elements (70) which can be operated by said cam shaft (66). The switch part (14) has a sleeve-shaped attachment (18) which engages through the opening (12) in the front panel, and said switch part (14) is accommodated by an annular collar (26) on the rear side of an end wall (24), which is adjacent to the front panel (10), of the switch part (16), and is fixed thereto. A cam element (46) surrounds the annular collar (26) by means of its outer part which is provided with latching cams (54). Locking catches which are arranged directly on the rear side of the housing end wall (24) interact with the latching cams (54) on the cam element (46) as a latching lock, and determine the switching positions of the switch. As a result of the latching lock being arranged radially outside the sleeve-shaped attachment (18) on the operating part, the installation depth of the cam-operated switch behind the front wall (10) is considerably reduced. <IMAGE>
